1. Male or Female? I sent my questionnaire out to 20 people altogether. I decided to make it fair I would send it to 10 female and 10 male. I did this so I would gain back accurate feed back depending on different genders. I also decided to do this because I don’t want my magazine to be gender specific. I have decided before hand that I want my magazine targeted at an age range rather than a gender so that my magazine has a mass target audience. How old are you? Looking at the results from my questionnaire involving age it proves that most people I questioned were within the age range of 16-25. Most of these people would be classed as teenagers/young adults.
2. Would it encourage you to purchase a magazine if it included a free gift? (Cover mount) What music do you listen to? In my questionnaire it turns out that all 20 people I questioned would not turn down the offer of a free gift. (Cover mount) To research more into this I asked the 20 candidates to state personally what they feel would sell well as a cover mount for a music magazine. Each person I interviewed tended to stated one of the 5 following gifts. The results as follows. From my results I have found that Indie and Rock are the most appealing music genres. Because I want my target audience to be nice wide range rather than a niche audience I am going to look into combining the 2 genres. If not Indie seems the most popular genre with my age range target audience. Tickets and CD’s are a very common. I feel it would give my magazine a higher selling point to include a cover mount. After I decide on my appropriate target audience I need to think closely as to which gifts I feel fit most appropriately with my genre and target audience.
3. Do you currently buy music magazines? 9 out of the 20 candidates who filled out my questionnaire already purchase music magazines. Although this is good to know that people are interested and do enjoy purchasing magazines it puts out more competition to convert those who are already settled with a music magazine to consider glancing into mine. (If previous answer is no) Would you consider buying a music magazine? Luckily out of the 11 who stated they wouldn’t consider purchasing one. My task is to create my magazine and then ask these same 11 people if they would consider purchasing my music magazine.
4. How much would you be willing to pay? £2-£2.99 was a popular price people would consider paying. Because closely behind this was the £3 boundary which people also found popular I’m going to place it at the top end of the £2-£2.99 boundary. For several reasons. 1- It will increase profit to the magazine over all 2- I know a large majority will be willing to pay the stated amount, there fore not loosing sales due to over rated pricing. 3- I feel may target audience are happy to pay the excessive price because this generation are known for there ‘pocket money’ leaves the with a wide fund to spend on unessaray things and there own interests such as there love and passion for music.
5. How often would you buy a music magazine? Which primary colour attracts your attention most? The reason I asked about colour is to define a theme colour for the magazine I am going to produce. I decided to not become excessive with the scheme and because I don’t want my magazine to be gender specific so I didn’t include stereotypical colours for a reason. I decided to stick with the 3 primary colours because as research points out, these colours attract the eye most. So these colours a good starting point for grasping attention. No one would consider purchasing a magazine daily. Which as a good thing, magazine companies would not have enough time to collect and process into a magazine daily. Also due to funding it would make the task impractical. I have found most people like a longer time gap between issues such as fortnightly or even monthly. I feel that a fortnight is a good limit between issues. There is enough time to collect and processes all new top news and gossip. Also not loosing out in any profits or sales as this time limit is what satisfies my target audience best.
